1. establish (verb)
To start a company or organization that will continue for a long time
Ex1: The brewery was established in 1822.
Ex2: These methods of working were established in the last century.
2. sharp (adjective)
Happening suddenly, quickly and strongly
Ex1: A sharp rise/increase in the number of cases of this illness
Ex2: A sharp bend in the road
Ex3: To suffer a sharp blow to the head
3. effective (adjective)
Successful or achieving the results that you want
Ex1: It's an extremely effective cure for a headache
Ex2: The lighting for the production made a very effective use of shadow
Ex3: She's a very effective teacher.
4. emission (noun)
When gas, heat, light, etc. is sent out
Ex1: The Green Party have called for a substantial reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases by the UK.
Ex2: The regulations require a reduction in harmful emissions.
5. interactive (adjective)
Describes a system or computer program which is designed to involve the user in the exchange of information
Ex1: This is an interactive museum where children can actively manipulate the exhibits.
Ex2: The ocean and the atmosphere form an interactive system.
Ex3: An interactive computer program involves the user in the exchange of information while the computer is in operation: interactive software/technology
6. content (noun)
The subject or ideas contained in something written, said, or represented
Ex1: The increasingly violent and sexually explicit content of computer and video games is disturbing to a lot of people.
Ex2: It's a very stylish and beautiful film, but it lacks content.
Ex3: We've discussed the unusual form of the book - now, what about the content?
7. provider (verb)
To give someone something that they need
Ex1: This booklet provides useful information about local services
Ex2: All meals are provided throughout the course.
Ex3: The author provides no documentary references to support her assertions.
8. subscribe (verb)
To pay money to an organization in order to receive a product, use a service regularly or support the organization
Ex1: She subscribes to several women's magazines.
Ex2: I subscribe £10 a month to the charity.
9. sustain (verb)
To cause or allow something to continue for a period of time
Ex1: The economy looks set to sustain its growth into next year.
Ex2: He seems to find it difficult to sustain relationships with women.
10. segment (noun)
Any of the parts into which something (especially a circle or sphere) can be divided or into which it is naturally divided
Ex1: The salad was decorated with segments of orange.
Ex2: People over the age of 85 make up the fastest-growing population segment.
